Choosing the right approach.

Agreeing the right approach

1

Initial discussion

A free 30 minute on-line session for you and I to meet each other, answer any questions you might have about the process and help me understand the essence of what you are looking for. After this both parties reflect on if they wish to move onto the next step.

2

Detailed assessment

A paid for 50 minute in-person or on-line session where we explore together your previous experiences, current circumstances and hopes for what having sessions might achieve. After this I support you to explore what approach might be suitable. Again, both parties reflect on if they wish to start sessions.

Regular sessions & reviews

Regular sessions can be in-person, on-line or a mixture of the two. We agree the frequency of them. For the first 4 to 6 weeks session are weekly. Thereafter, weekly remains the most normal pattern, although this can be varied if circumstances dictate. Reviews of progress are held at regular intervals. It is important to anticipate endings and allow some sessions to prepare for them.

My Approaches

Coaching

In-person or on-line. Typically weekly (or fortnightly). I combine various well established coaching models into a clear, easy to follow structure:

  1. Frame the relationship – contracting; understanding each other; building rapport and a working alliance

  2. Assess your current state – Where you are now?; What is the problem?; What resources do you have (and lack)?

  3. Define your desired state – What does a good outcome look like?; How will you know, feel, taste you are there?

  4. Emotions, motivation & perceptions – What comes up for you emotionally as you contemplate this change?

  5. Know-how – What additional knowledge and/or skills do you need to make this change?

  6. Options & Review – generate and evaluate options; devise a plan; review and conclude the work

Mentoring

In-person or on-line. Typically fortnightly or monthly. Some clients        find a coaching engagement provides all they need. However, others     benefit from on-going mentoring support. This is most often when implementing the plan to achieve their desired outcome requires      significant investment of time. I ‘hold space’ for you in a mentoring       relationship to help keep you accountable for making progress. Mentoring can also cover specific advice and guidance on the areas covered by my previous professional expertise (i.e. business change, business analysis, project management).

Psychotherapy

In-person or on-line. Typically weekly  (or fortnightly). To explore, at a deeper relational level, what can be difficult, challenging and distressing thoughts, feelings, behaviours and beliefs about past and/or current events and relationships. This is with the intention of raising awareness of how you ‘are’ in the world, what factors may be keeping you ‘stuck’ and adopting a hopeful, creative and experimental curiosity about change for the future.
